Amazon Now Supports Multi-Package Shipping for FBM Orders

If you sell large or heavy products through Fulfilled by Merchant and you've ever had to ship an order in multiple boxes, you know the problem. Amazon Buy Shipping only supported single-package orders. Multi-box shipments meant working outside the system, which meant giving up the account protections and valid tracking coverage that come with Amazon's labels. That ends today.

Amazon has launched multi-package shipping support for FBM orders in Seller Central, and it's live right now.

What's Actually New

You can now purchase Amazon Buy Shipping labels for multi-box orders directly in Seller Central in a single flow. Select the number of packages, enter the box details, review the consolidated rates, and purchase all labels at once. Each package gets its own tracking number, so buyers can see when individual boxes ship and whether they'll arrive on the same day or different days.

That last part matters more than it sounds. Customers buying a sofa, a weight set, or anything else that ships in multiple boxes have historically had a confusing post-purchase experience because they'd see one order and multiple unlabeled shipments. Now each package has its own tracking, which means fewer "where's my stuff?" contacts and fewer customer service headaches.

The Account Protection Piece

This is the part that makes multi-package shipping more than a convenience feature. Every package purchased through this flow is eligible for the same account protections as single-package Amazon Buy Shipping labels: valid tracking coverage, account protection from delivery-related claims, and eligibility for refunds on delivery-related issues.

The fine print: to qualify for refunds on delivery-related claims, you need to use a "claims protected" shipping label and ship on time. For on-time delivery rate protection, standard shipping orders also need Shipping Settings Automation and Automated Handling Time enabled. Premium Shipping and SFP orders need Shipping Settings Automation and on-time shipment. If you're already set up correctly for single-package Buy Shipping, the same setup applies here.

How to Use It

The flow is straightforward. In Seller Central, go to Amazon Buy Shipping and check the "Multi-package item" box. Click "Add package" to enter box dimensions and weight, review the combined shipping cost, and purchase. You'll get labels for each box to print individually, and all tracking and delivery details are managed from the same order view.

Multi-package shipping is available in Seller Central now. Amazon has also said it's coming to Amazon Buy Shipping via APIs, multi-channel integrators, and Ship Confirmation, so sellers using third-party integrations won't be left out for long.

Who Should Pay Attention

If you're an FBM seller with products that ship in multiple boxes, this is directly relevant today. Furniture, fitness equipment, large appliances, bulk goods, anything with multiple components that ships separately has been waiting for this. If you've been working around the limitation with manual processes or external shipping tools, it's worth testing the native flow now that it's available with full account protections.

If you manage a mix of FBA and FBM inventory and you're thinking through your fulfillment strategy heading into Prime Day and the second half of the year, this is one more reason the FBM side of your catalog deserves a closer look. Our Amazon team works through exactly these kinds of fulfillment and operational decisions with brands all the time.
