Amazon is automatically updating product content. Here’s what to do.

Amazon has begun automatically updating product content. It’s not yet rolled out for most sellers at the time of this writing, but you’ll want to check to see whether it’s been activated for your brands.

You’ll see this notice on your Seller Central dashboard:

Here’s how Amazon puts it:

“We are using the power of AI to enrich content of some of the ASIN(s) in your catalog. Review changes before these updates are published.

We are piloting a new program to leverage the power of AI to generate richer product listings, and your feedback is important to us. You remain in control of the published updates, but please provide your feedback by the Feedback Due Date. If you agree or do not respond, these updates will be published automatically once the Feedback Due Date has elapsed. You may contact Support to make any changes once the due date has passed. If you disagreed with the proposed changes in your feedback, the existing attribute values will persist and the updates will NOT be published.

It’s of vital importance for sellers to review Amazon’s proposed changes, because if you don’t provide feedback with corrections, Amazon will automatically make the changes for you. And, this could be bad if Amazon’s AI system isn’t as smart as it thinks it is.

Every week or so, Amazon will post a spreadsheet with their latest intended changes. Sellers must review the sheet, and if they have an issue with the suggested changes, they must upload the sheet with feedback:

What You Need to Know

  1. Sellers can’t opt out of this program
  2. If you don’t correct proposed catalog changes, Amazon will automatically implement them

Our Thoughts

Overall, this is a good thing. More robust, more accurate product listings are better for customers. But, it adds an additional process for sellers. We’re assured that Amazon’s AI learns from feedback, and so it won’t try to make the same incorrect update more than once. But, it’s still important for sellers to regularly review proposed changes.
