How we helped a hardware brand save 90% on their lifestyle photography
RCH Hardware sells chains, house numbers, door pulls, and other hardware used by contractors and home decorators. When we helped them improve their Amazon presence for their line of hanging and decorative chains, we had to tackle the problem of their limited library of lifestyle photography showing their chains installed.
This was completely understandable. Location lifestyle photography can be expensive, so until now, they’ve relied on using photography shared by home decorators and designers that have made use of RCH Hardware chains in their work.
The solution was to use rendering, not traditional photography, for a new set of lifestyle images.
To create these images, we first created accurate 3D models of their chain products, and then used them in a series of aspirational scenes.
We have a lot more in the works, but we wanted to share the first set of images we’ve created.
For lifestyle photography, it’s in the details
The secret to creating renderings indistinguishable from traditional photography isn’t perfection… it’s the imperfections, and the little details that make the scene real. That’s why we took the time to add power cords to the lamps and snaked them through the chains:
We still rely on traditional photography when the time is right, but rendering can reduce production time from weeks to days (and sometimes, hours), and significantly reduce costs. We were able to create these images for about 90% less than it would have cost to scout a location and bring in a photographer and crew.
